[12/22/24] I Made a Character

I write myself a schedule, or at the very least I try to, (or else I don't manage to finish with anything) as soon as I wake so that I have in mind an overview of how my day shall go. At times the schedule takes a detour and I don't manage what I intend to, and then I stamp my feet and throw a tantrum on the carpet and run into walls and bash my head against several bricks and die but it's nice to look forward to a little checklist daily, you know? It'll soon be Christmas. Which is meaningless aside from themed chocolates because I get the "mooching off my aunties" money during the January mostly. There was the last year a house at which I attended a Christmas party. Mostly it was my mom's friends, most of my socialization comes from my mom's friends and if lucky, the children of those friends, I suppose. I come across dry, I'm sure. It felt as though that Christmas party was only a while ago, I can remember that all I did was sit in the kitchen writing because I happen to write better in any place not my own house. Funny. It felt as though I wrote that little thing only a week ago and I was beaming that it was nice and polished like a gem, though I can't really display it to anyone because I'll be told to write of things suitable for my age. I wanted to go this year too, you know, just to sit in that kitchen again and then be given bowls of ice cream because the middle-aged ladies don't know what else to do to entertain this child. I'm a sentimental individual like that.

I didn't end up going though. And it's a little unfortunate. I did want to go. I did want to sit in that kitchen. I did want to let the lines of past and present and the future of the coming year blur a little. It's been a year now. It's been a year. It's been a year now. But Mom said, "Don't come. You won't enjoy it." Until the last minute, then she said, "If you wish to..." Well, I did! But I have now written into my schedule and planned the day around it that I'm not coming, I'm sorry. "Kibishi ne," she said. I managed what I did wish to do in a Sunday today and I only walked for a bit because, I'm not sure. It was just a little boring today. And I didn't wear my gloves. Hands felt clammy. I haven't sat down and drawn in a good while so I sat there, thinking, I have a good three hours of the day to spare. I can just dick around on the computer. Sat down. I seldom watch youtube videos as I don't fare well with anything but silence when I do things, with the exception of drawing. So if I wish to watch videos, it also means I need to be drawing or doing something with my hands.

Most characters I happen to make are made with ideas of some greater symbol, archetype, role in mind, rather than standalone characters. Yet I wished to simply have some traveller characters, like the sorts you'd make for DnD. Or something. I never did play DnD or any other tabletop RPGs. I remember having on paper joined the board games club but I never did regularly attend, I think, and when I did, I liked reading the books in the corner of the room. Which was not what the club was about but I don't think anyone cared, and also the memory is hazy. I was a fourth grader. It's irrelevant now.

I didn't and still don't really like large expansive fantasy worlds. The world we inhabit now is mystery enough, and the headaches I get too trying to learn of it? Enough. But perhaps in the future, I'll develop a fondness for sci-fi and fantasy. But with that being said, I didn't care for stories of wizards and elves and fairies. Basically those big fantasy books. This all makes me sound so dry, doesn't it?

Anyhow, here's my character, Nozeki. And, well, indeed he is what one would call "a self insert" because that's fun. But also, he's his own character.

He's... a traveller, I guess. I can't decide on him being sixteen or an university-age yet. I guess it can flunctuate depending on what I want to do with him. The story might take place in some fantastical version of Japan. He's from Hokkaido. I haven't settled on either if he's a physics student or a maths one, but I am partial to maths. Clearly. I'm not sure to implement some sort of magic system or not. I'm scouring for my notebook to see what I wrote on him, right, he can be overly pragmatic but not exactly logical. As in that he follows his own set of rules of what is logical and what is not that doesn't really make sense to anyone but himself. He does have a companion but I don't have any good images of her.

I hope to write more on them and develop them further!
